“A- you’re adorable, B- you’re so beautiful, C- you’re a cutie full of charm…”, the melody smooth and the voice soft and calming. As he lies in bed, temperature at boiling point, a little boy is in need. In need of something to sooth the ache, something to mend the tenderness and something to soak those tears right up.
“D- you’re delightful and E- you’re exciting and F-you’re a feather in my arms…” Although there is never the perfect formula for a young child to overcome a fever, nothing compares to the comforting love from mum! The nurturance in each word that passes through the air and into a child’s imagination is nothing short of magic. The melodious lullaby, despite entrenched in my mind by rote, the Alphabet Song never ceases to calm me into a serene state where home is achieved; regardless of my location. That warm and comforting song always negated those nights of illness, feeling of unease or the helplessness of any situation. So it is only fitting that on this day, Mother’s Day, I salute Mummy Dearest- the one that truly worked miracles and pulled tricks from her hat without even trying; the one that still fills my heart with warmth when I feel down. The work that each and every Mummy does is worthy of winning a magician’s accreditation! To all mums out there, have a magical day.
